It is no secret among the gaming community that Fox News has a ‘tendency’ to be biased, and to an extent, completely wrong in its representation of video games in society. For years they have led the charge in assuming that violent video games are a direct cause and effect catalyst when it comes to young, violent crimes. It seems as if every time that Fox News catches wind of a violent crime, they immediately check to see what video games the accused has been playing.

Now, while there is still some debate as to whether or not video games desensitize youth to violent actions, the general consensus among researchers show that very few believe that video games are a direct cause of violent crimes committed. ┬áBut reason, logic and fact based arguments have alluded Fox News over the years, and they have issued a poll to see what America thinks. The poll is actually titled, “Do you believe violent video games are to blame for inciting mass murderers, as some researchers say?” Yep, that is right. But that is not the best part.

When browsing over the poll, and of course casting my vote for “No.”, I noticed the advertisement at the top of the screen.

Fox News

Yep, that’s right. They are actually advertising the Xbox 360 on a page with a poll dedicated to pushing their “anti-games” agenda. They are actually insinuating that violent video games create mass murderers, yet they advertise the Xbox 360, a machine created to play video games. So what do you think about this? Let us know how you feel about Fox News and the Anti-Gaming agenda they are forcing on the American Public in the comments below!

I hate fox news as much as the next guy, but I want to point out that they aren’t “advertising the xbox 360″, they’re advertising the Fox News App for the Xbox 360.

The writer of this article makes accusations he does not back up in any factual way, points to a poll that asks the readers their opinion and is flat out wrong when he states that Fox is advertising the 360. It’s the Fox News app that is being advertised. So it would appear that the writer is biased AND wrong, much like he assumes about Fox News.

    Funny that..

I am assuming this comment is a troll attempt, but just in case, I’ll bite.

I fail to see your argument. Regardless of whether or not you feel advertising the “Fox News App” on the Xbox 360, or the Xbox 360 itself, Fox is still advertising the Xbox 360. And to say that I am biased is laughable at best. The statement of the poll suggests Fox News’ agenda. Just read it. “Do you believe violent video games are to blame for inciting mass murders, as researchers say?” Really? What researchers say that? I have done mine, and the consensus among the scientific community is that this statement is false. I could also point to the public opinion as a form of research, considering the results of the poll, which you can find at the link provided:

      http://nation.foxnews.com/poll/2013/09/12/do-believe-violent-video-games-are-to-blame-for-inciting-mass-murderers-as-some/

Yep, 98% say no. Care to argue?

LOL, I am trolling if I do not agree with you??

Sorry but you are still wrong. It was not an advertisement for the Xbox 360.. Your “news” story was wrong.

Also, your assertion that “consensus among the scientific community is that this statement is false” is laughable at best.

    http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865577789/Violent-video-games-Why-experts-want-more-research-and-what-parents-can-do.html?pg=all

It is not consensus.. In fact many, including the president, feel more study needs to be done. You might want to do a little more research before you write. It took 10 seconds on Google to refute you.

Finally, you rely on the results of an online poll to back up your argument? Really??

Consensus: broad unanimity: general or widespread agreement among all the members of a group

Nope.. It’s not a consensus, sorry. Oh and you went from claiming a consensus of the “scientific community” to the “polled public”.. Nice switcheroo there!

And that 98% poll? Was that a scientific poll? Or was it an internet poll that possibly was hijacked by the Reddit community and other sites? Again, you are attempting to validate your news article with an unscientific online poll? Really?

I also noticed you are attempting to sidestep my original point, that you were wrong to claim in your news story that Fox News was advertising the 360.

BTW I am not arguing that violent video games leads anyone to become mass murderers, so don’t assume I am. I am only attempting to point out that your news story contains falsehood and bias which is ironic since you accuse Fox of exactly the same thing.
