Future Learn is a free online university project owned by The Open University. Whilst still in beta, the university is taking applications for one of its first courses offered: “Begin Programming: build your first mobile game”.
This 7 week course beginning on 28 October, is aimed at beginners wanting to learn programming in Java for free.
The course is to be run by the University of Reading who’s School of Engineering Staff expertly guide the students through the course; resulting in the development of a complete game for Android phone; tablet or PC.
“You’ll have the freedom to create a game that’s unique to you, with support from the community and educators if you get stuck. You’ll learn how to create algorithms to solve problems and translate these into code, using the same tools as industry professionals worldwide” says the Future Learn website.
The free course is available to all, requirements simply include a computer that meets their required spec to run the programming software, although the site does boast that you need only a web connected device (phone,tablet or console) to access the accompanying course material.
