Indie Spotlight: Contrast
Indie Spotlight is a new feature series created by GamR Mag to help bring more information regarding popular upcoming indie games to our growing community. If you have an indie game that you would like to see featured, please let us know in the comments below!
There are very few times, at least in my experience, when you see an indie title, even if through a few screenshots, and just know it is destined for greatness. This is the very feeling I get when I peer behind the curtain of Compulsion Games upcoming indie title, Contrast. Contrast is a game unlike any I have ever seen. The uniqueness of its art style not only shines through in various screenshots, or YouTube videos, but also in the creator’s written description of the game. When you dig a bit more into Contrast, you get the feeling as if something really special is about to happen, something that you can not quite explain, but you are excited to witness. For this very reason, GamR Mag has chosen to pull back the curtain so to speak, and show our readers a little more of the world that is Contrast.
In trying to describe Contrast, I find that having not played the game, my words will do the title any justice. The only way I can think to present the premise of this “world” that Compulsion is creating, is by showing you their description of the experience they are most definitely going to deliver.
“Premiering to the world very, very soon, Contrast is a mystery centered around cabaret, live jazz, fairgrounds, acrobatics and illusions.
But it’s no ordinary show! Through the marvels of modern technology, Contrast is coming to a Steam, Xbox 360, PS3 and PS4 platform near you, louder than radio, faster than telegraph and more risqué than Lady Chatterley’s Lover! No more waiting in line for popcorn, no more pushy crowds, no more scalpers, this is the real deal!
This kind of experience ain’t cheap though, folks – there’s a catch. A little girl, Didi, needs some company – she’s a good kid, but she’s got some family troubles and is livin’ in a complicated adult world. She really needs a pal to help her out – and this is where you come in.
You, the mystery audience member, will play Dawn, an enigmatic young lady tasked with helping Didi as she explores the world of Contrast. You will need to use Dawn’s tricks of light and shadow (through clever special effects, you will be able to become your shadow, at will, whenever your shadow appears on a wall!), and summon up all your improvisational skills to move the story along.”
As you may have been able to tell, the games art style focuses on the old cabaret/illusionist style theater shows from yesteryear. The risque style make up, the long red, flowing curtains, the bright lights, large posters and unforgettable artwork. To get a bit more grasp on what Contrast actually is, here are a few screenshots from the game’s official website.
As you can tell, the world of Contrast is a unique and mysterious place. One that i personally believe will be another notch in the growing belt of great, must play indie titles. If that isn’t enough of a reason to get excited about Contrast, take a look at the recently released trailer from Compulsion Games entitled “DiDi’s Trailer”, enjoy!
